The Arunachal Rang Mahotsav (ARM) 2025 began on a grand note on 23 November at the DK Convention Centre, Itanagar, drawing together national and international dignitaries, acclaimed theatre personalities and global cultural ambassadors.
The ceremony commenced at 5 PM, with the presence of Festival Ambassador Adil Hussain, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Education & Tourism Minister PD Sona, noted actor Mita Vasisht, Sophie Rogan, Second Secretary & Consul at the Embassy of Ireland, and Bente Wolff, Country Director (India) of the Danish Cultural Institute. Artists from Denmark, Ireland and Spain also attended, giving the festival a strong international presence.
Earlier, Festival Director Riken Ngomle had highlighted ARMโs evolution into โa historic milestoneโ in Indiaโs theatre landscape, stating that the festival now unites artists from 10 countries, transforming Itanagar into a global cultural hub. This yearโs edition includes workshops on lighting and acting, artist meet-ups, expert interactions, nine indigenous productions, contemporary plays and multiple international performances. The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society is also documenting local theatre traditions as part of the festival.
The inaugural evening featured the opening play โRobin & Jummiโ, inspired by Romeo and Juliet and directed by Ngomle himself. Performed by artists from Roots Delhi, the production officially launched the ARM 2025 performance lineup and was received with enthusiasm.
With around 135 trained local artists participating and events scheduled until 3 December, the Arunachal Rang Mahotsav 2025 promises to deliver one of the biggest theatre celebrations in India, showcasing the cultural vibrancy and creative depth of Arunachal Pradesh.
