The historical claims of the biblical 10 plagues of Egypt and attempts by various movie studios to “recreate” the “history” are an interesting debate in historical terms. The problem is some events are clearly made up tales that lack a good basis in reality that can be in any way shape to form described. Others are just the right side of possible that they can be argued with various degrees of confidence. Some are actually possibly if not probably caused by real events around the same time. This creates a range of justification, evidence and strengths to each of the 10 plagues.
Of the ten plagues you can roughly evenly split them into arguably real, maybe real and definitely made up. Not perfectly even as 10 does not divide by 3 evenly but also some are edge cases that can be argues several ways.
The most likely to be real to some extent are:
Water turning red as blood
Frogs
Lice
Gnats
Flies
Locusts
Less definitive but possible are:
Boils
Darkness
Hail
Then we have the least likely:
Death fo the first born of every non Israelite family.
Considering Exodus is meant to have been a book that occurs somewhere between 1446 BCE and 1260BCE this I a slight problem. Some events occur around this time. That makes it possible to argue that they were real. Some occurred hundreds of years earlier or later. Some are actually documented just not specifically at this time.
Further the lack of archaeological evidence from Egypt and the surrounding area. Nothing to show Exodus occurring. No remains for archaeologists to find. No records from Egypt or other countries. A very notable hole where the evidence that supports the whole story of exodus is missing and therefore unable to be foundation for a factual analysis of exodus as anything but the ravings of nomads wandering the dessert half starved and fully dehydrated over decades.
