Renowned UPSC Educator and Economy Expert Dr. Mrunal Patel analyzes the UPPSC Prelims 2025 Economy section in this video, tailored for aspirants preparing for UPSC, SSC-CGL, State PSC (UPPSC, BPSC, GPSC), Banking, IBPS, RBI, CAPF, CDS, ACIO, and APFC exams. He reviews the paper's quality, solves key Economy questions, flags two potentially erroneous questions, and shares a strategy for 2026.
Dr. Patel compares UPPSC's paper to BPSC's microscopic GK and GPSC's trivial local details, noting its UPSC-CDS-level standard with minimal state GK. He calls it a "good paper," manageable without extra coaching for national exam aspirants. Post-exam, he advises against cutoff obsession, urging analysis of question sources, missed easy questions, and avoiding last-minute marathon videos. Treat the exam as a learning exercise for future attempts.
Of the 150 GS questions, ~30 were Economy and Government Schemes. Half (15) came from standard sources like NCERT, Maharashtra textbooks, India Year Book, and Laxmikant (see slides by pausing). Dr. Patel’s Economy book (Amazon/Flipkart) covers ~15 questions as a compilation of standard references. Three questions allowed 50-50 elimination, 10 were state-specific or old schemes (Rajiv/Indira Gandhi era), and two (internet users, Atal Tunnel) are debatable for cancellation.
Economy questions are classified into 8 pillars (6 national + 2 state: Microeconomics, State GK). Pillar 1 (Money, Banking): MUDRA loans (Finance Ministry). Pillar 2 (Budget): Finance Commission chairs (NK Singh, Arvind Panagariya). Pillar 3 (Trade): Bretton Woods twins (World Bank, IMF), Global Financial Stability Report. Pillar 4 (Sectors): Internet users (806M vs 954M), MRP bargaining, ILO’s Global Wage Report. Pillar 5 (Infra): Railway HQs, Pamban Bridge, International Solar Alliance, Atal Tunnel (debatable). Pillar 6 (Poverty, Schemes): Food security (Amartya Sen), poverty committees (Tendulkar, Rangarajan), UNDP’s Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index, old schemes (NREP, TRYSEM), recent ones (ADI Karmayogi, MISHTI). Pillar 7 (Microeconomics): None asked. Pillar 8 (State-specific): Two UP economy questions.
Debatable questions: Internet users (Indian Express: 806M; PIB: 954M, Aug 2025) and Atal Tunnel (~9km, not world’s longest; caveat: above 10,000 ft). Objection formats are in the description link. Students must file complaints (Dr. Patel lacks roll number).
For 2026: Skip NCERT Class 12; use Maharashtra Class 11 PDF. If time, read NCERT Class 9 (3-4 questions sourced). Get India 2026 Year Book or free summaries for schemes. Follow Dr. Patel’s free winter series for current affairs. His book is optional for UPPSC-only prep.
