My Parents have been talking about hiking their first 14er for a few years, and we finally found a good window to attempt one. We decided on Mt Huron based on the trail length of 7 miles and its reputation of beautiful views.
We set off from the Trailhead at 8am and found ourselves immersed in thick pine trees for the first 1.5 miles. The aspen leaves were just past their prime colors but we still found their yellow/brown hue a beautiful contrast to the green pines and the rocks above treeline. The path was well-maintained and easy to follow all the way to the summit, even with several inches of snow at the 13,000' mark.
As a child you do not get to experience many "firsts" for your parents, so to be able to stand with them on their first 14er summit is something I will always remember. I was proud of their resolve to get up the mountain and am grateful for them teaching me to love being outside in nature.
