Building Birdies Raised Beds

Today we are building some raised beds!

Our wooden beds, made of fence pickets and marking stakes, are starting to rot out. Surprising? No. They were what we could afford to do back in 2020 and we knew they’d only last a few years. Our hope was that they’d last at least 4 years, and they have! Most of them should last at least another couple of years. And to be honest we aren’t sure why some decided to rot and some have no signs of decay. The only theory is that some parts of the yard pool with water and others do not.

Now that we’re in a better financial spot, we’ve been able to start getting some good metal beds that should last 10+ years! We’re only going to replace them as needed, but are hoping that we can do a full replacement within a couple years.
