Jetwing Lighthouse is one of the most iconic hotels along the southern coastal belt of Sri Lanka, credited with making Galle one of the most sought-after destinations on the island. The incredible journey that led to this stunning resort began 25 years ago with a dream by Herbert Cooray, Jetwing’s founding chairman.
Captivated by a scenic promontory just north of Galle, where the main road skirted a sandy inlet, Cooray acquired the land at the first opportunity and set about realizing his dreams of a resort that stood on the sea’s edge. The challenge of giving life to Cooray’s vision fell to Sri Lanka’s most admired architect, Geoffrey Bawa, and he answered with the masterpiece that today stands as one iconic property of Sri Lanka.
