The Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Research Project takes a comprehensive approach to understanding democratization. Each March, V-Dem Institute releases its Democracy Report providing a deep, data-driven understanding of how the countries of the world are moving closer to democracy or autocracy.
Staffan Lindberg is Professor of political science and Director of the V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg, founding Principal Investigator of V-Dem, founding Director of the national research infrastructure DEMSCORE, ERC Consolidator, and Wallenberg Academy Fellow. Kelly Morrison is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Varieties of Democracy Institute. Her research evaluates the connection between democratic institutions, human rights, and political violence.
In 2022, the Jackson Center's programming theme is Democracy on Trial. We are hosting conversations about the pressures on, challenges to, and opportunities for democracy and democratic institutions in the United States and around the world.
