On 22 April 2025, the serene Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, turned into a nightmare when five militants armed with AK‑47s and M4 carbines attacked tourists, killing 26 civilians and injuring around 20 others. The group specifically targeted non-Muslim visitors, marking the deadliest assault on civilians in India since Mumbai 2008  . The fallout was immediate: over 80% cancellations of Kashmir tourism, a 25–50% drop in inquiries, and financial losses running into crores. Around 175 people were detained during follow‑up raids . In response, India ramped up security, launching “Operation Abhyaas” – a nationwide defence drill – and increased vigilance across key pilgrimage destinations .

Fast forward to 12 June 2025, when Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after takeoff, descending from about 625 ft and colliding with the BJ Medical College hostel . Of the 242 onboard, 241 perished, in addition to 39+ killed on the ground. Only one survivor, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, escaped with injuries . Investigators are probing possible dual-engine failure, flap or landing‑gear issues, and have recovered black boxes .
