What You’ll Learn
What WaterWear is (single-use/reusable sleeve system for water protection)
When to use it: swimming, showering, beach, water parks, rain
The correct way to seal the sleeve to keep water out
Wearing options (hair clip, sports band/cap) for pools and open water
Post-use care to prevent moisture damage and odors
Step-by-Step (Quick Guide)
Prepare a clean, dry area. Wash/dry hands; keep the SAMBA 2 completely dry before you start.
Open the WaterWear sleeve. Inspect for tears, holes, or creases—replace if damaged.
Insert the processor. Slide SAMBA 2 gently into the sleeve with microphone areas facing the clear window if present.
Seal carefully. Follow the sleeve’s fold–press–adhere (or clamp) method. Press along the entire seam to ensure an airtight, even seal with no folds or bubbles.
Fit for activity.
Pool/laps: Use a swim cap or sports headband over the implant site for stability.
Open water/beach: Add an attachment clip to clothing or cap for backup retention.
Final checks. Gently squeeze the sleeve—no air leaks should escape. Place on implant site and confirm secure magnet hold.
After Water Use
Remove & dry. Towel off first so you don’t drip onto the device; then remove the sleeve.
Inspect the processor. If the sleeve stayed sealed, the device should be bone-dry.
Air the device. Leave the battery door open for 15–30 minutes; use a drying kit overnight when possible.
Dispose or store. Follow the sleeve’s reuse/single-use guidance from its packaging.
If Water Entered the Sleeve
Power down immediately (open battery door, remove battery).
Dry the exterior with a soft towel; do not use heat or a hairdryer.
Place in a drying kit (desiccant).
Do not reinsert the battery until everything is fully dry.
Contact your audiologist/service if you suspect damage.
Care & Safety Tips
Use only original WaterWear sleeves designed for your device model.
Fresh sleeve, fresh seal every session—sun, salt, and chlorine weaken adhesives.
Rinse the sealed sleeve in fresh water after salt/chlorine exposure, then dry.
Avoid deep dives, high-velocity slides, and hot tubs/saunas (heat can affect seals).
In open water, pair WaterWear with a cap + clip to prevent loss.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Inserting a damp processor into the sleeve.
Partial sealing or wrinkled seams that form capillary paths for leaks.
Reusing a sleeve that’s creased, stretched, or sticky at the seal.
Wearing without secondary retention during vigorous activity.
Safety Note
WaterWear provides temporary water protection when sealed and used correctly. It does not change the device’s base water-resistance rating. If you notice muffled sound or moisture after use, stop, dry thoroughly, and contact your audiologist.
