The delegation from the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh Explores

Recently, the delegation from the Australian High Commission, Bangladeshvisited the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre (RCMC) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
The RCMC is a unique community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) project of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), aimed at preserving Rohingya cultural heritage through storytelling, heritage skills transfer, and art. This centre is based in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and has been in operation since 2022.
The Rohingya artisans at the RCMC have curated a collection of over 1,500 cultural artifacts and regularly organize cultural activities. These initiatives play a vital role in preserving and promoting Rohingya cultural heritage while fostering mental health and psychosocial well-being within the community.
During the visit, the delegations received a community-led guided tour of various sections of the centre, including the Houses of Arakan, Farming Section, Landmarks of Arakan, Rohingya Mini Village Prototype, Boats of Arakan, Fishing Nets and Traps, Traditional Rohingya Kitchen, Storytelling Section, Children's Corner, RCMC Outreach Section, and the Women's Section, which showcased intricate tapestries and narratives of hope and resilience. These exhibits offered the visitors a deeper understanding of the Rohingya people's cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and lived experiences. The guided tour concluded with a traditional Rohingya music performance, allowing the visitors to experience the melodies and rhythms that have been passed down through generations, serving as a powerful expression of the Rohingya identity and collective memory.
