How to make a Weave St Bridget's Cross using rushes.
Weaved St Bridget's Crosses are a variant of the traditional 4 legged crosses.
Lá Fhéile Bhríde
St Bridget’s crosses are made on “Oiche Naomh Bríd” January 31st, they are then left outside overnight to be blessed by her for protection for the year ahead. It is said that Bridget travels the countryside stopping at each house to bless crosses left out by its occupants.
Crosses are displayed in households all year round, only being removed to be replaced the following year.
Make your own Weave St Bridget's Cross using My First Focail's easy step-by-step tutorial and explanation.
Crosses are traditionally made from Rushes, if you do not have access to Rushes you can also make crosses from Straw, Plastic Straws, and Wire Pipe Cleaners.
