Tai Yang - Gala 2023 - Stanford Talisman

Perhaps our deepest and most thoroughly human memories are created by motherly love in the many forms it manifests. "Tai Yang," also known as 小小羊儿要回家, or “the little sheep are coming home,” is a traditional lullaby sung in Mandarin Chinese from a mother’s point of view. She tells us through the lyrics how she loves all her children despite their differences and that she promises to keep them safe within her warm embrace. 羊儿 (yáng er) means little sheep, and this is what the mother calls her children. Let us all think back to being little sheep coming home to a mother’s arms.

Stanford Talisman is a student-led a cappella group at Stanford University dedicated to sharing stories through song. This has become our mantra as we strive to respectfully give voice to the vast collection of human stories told through rich and vibrant song. We appreciate the great challenge of responsibly engaging with the genuine roots of the songs we sing and are committed to bringing these songs to life as best as our abilities allow.
