The NPP government is attempting to destroy the independence of Sri Lanka’s independent institutions.
They have already failed to appoint an Auditor General. Now, they are organizing protests against the Attorney General—an office that is constitutionally required to remain independent.
This is a dangerous trend.
Independent institutions exist to protect democracy, the rule of law, and the rights of the people. Any government interference in these institutions is unacceptable and harmful to the country.
A government must respect institutional independence—not attack it when decisions are inconvenient.
