Ligier JS11/15 F1, 3.0-Litre V8 Ford Cosworth DFV Engine, AvD Oldtimer GP Nürburgring & Goodwood FOS

This is the Ligier JS11/15 ex Jacques Laffite, an evolution of the Formula One [F1] car presented in 1979. I enjoyed filming it in action on the Nürburgring track during the 2019 edition of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix and the month before at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​(FOS). The single-seater driven by Matteo Ferrer-Aza, an ex-official Ligier-Gitanes team car, takes part in the FIA ​​Masters Historic Formula One's races Championship. Designed by Gérard Ducarouge and Michel Beaujon adopts a 3.0-litre Ford Cosworth DFV 90º V8 naturally aspirated engine mated to a 5-speed Hewland FGA 400 manual gearbox. The power developed is about 500hp (366Kw) at 10,600 rpm and the construction of the frame is made up of an aluminium and carbon fibre monocoque. Originally built in 1979 with the JS11/01 chassis was modified to the 1980 specification into JS11/15 model. The improvements included more developed aerodynamics and a massive increase in ground effect. The enormous downforce was the cause of multiple failures as the suspension and wheel hubs could not withstand all that load. Despite this, it turned out to be a very fast single-seater, finishing fourth in the 1980 world championship. Pilot Jacques Laffite won the German Grand Prix and got on the podium 5 more times.

Questa è la Ligier JS11/15 ex Jacques Laffite, evoluzione della vettura di Formula Uno [F1] presentata 1979. Ho avuto il piacere di filmarla in azione sulla pista del Nürburgring durante l'edizione 2019 dell'AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix ed in Inghilterra il mese precedente al Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS). La monoposto pilotata da Matteo Ferrer-Aza, un'esemplare ex-ufficiale della scuderia Ligier-Gitanes, prende parte alle gare del FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship. Progettata da Gérard Ducarouge e Michel Beaujon adotta un motore da 3.0-litri Ford Cosworth DFV 90º V8 aspirato abbinato ad un cambio manuale Hewland FGA 400 a 5 rapporti. La potenza sviluppata è di circa 500cv (366Kw) a 10.600 giri/min e la realizzazione del telaio è formato da una monoscocca in alluminio e fibra di carbonio. Costruita originariamente nel 1979, chassis JS11/01 è stata modificata con le specifiche del 1980 nel modello JS11/15. I miglioramenti prevedevano un'aerodinamica maggiormente sviluppata ed un massiccio aumento dell'effetto suolo. Proprio l'enorme deportanza fu la causa di molteplici rotture inquanto le sospensioni ed i mozzi ruota non erano in grado di sopportare tutto quel carico. Nonostante questo risultò essere una monoposto molto veloce concludendo al quarto posto il campionato del mondo 1980. Con al volante il pilota Jacques Laffite vinse il gran premio di Germania e salì sul podio altre 5 volte.
