金閣寺（鹿苑寺）位於日本京都市北區，是日本最具代表性的佛教寺院之一，屬於臨濟宗相國寺派。原為室町幕府將軍足利義滿的別墅，稱「北山殿」，在他逝世後依遺願改為禪寺，並取名為「鹿苑寺」，但因主殿外覆金箔，通稱為「金閣寺」。建於14世紀末，建築風格融合貴族住宅、武家建築與禪宗寺院的特色。三層樓建築各具風格：一樓為法水院，採平安貴族風；二樓為潮音洞，呈武家風格；三樓為究竟頂，屬禪宗佛堂風格，整體外觀金光閃耀，倒映於鏡湖池中，景色絕美。1950年金閣寺一度遭縱火焚毀，現存建築為1955年重建。庭園則保留原貌，屬於池泉回遊式庭園，四季景色各異，尤以雪中金閣最為著名。金閣寺象徵了日本美學與禪意的極致融合，是京都不可錯過的重要文化資產與世界文化遺產。

京都金閣寺へ踏み入れる

金閣寺（鹿苑寺）は、京都市北区に位置する日本で最も象徴的な仏教寺院の一つで、臨済宗相国寺派に属しています。元々は室町幕府将軍・足利義満の別荘「北山殿」として建てられましたが、彼の死後、その遺志により禅寺に改められ、「鹿苑寺」と名付けられました。しかし、本堂が金箔で覆われていることから、通称「金閣寺」として広く知られています。

14世紀末に建てられた金閣寺の建築は、公家住宅、武家屋敷、禅宗寺院の要素を融合させた独特の構造を持っています。三層構造の建物はそれぞれ異なる様式を持ち、一階は平安貴族風の「法水院」、二階は武家風の「潮音洞」、三階は禅宗様式の仏堂「究竟頂」となっています。金箔に輝くその外観は鏡湖池に映し出され、圧巻の景観を生み出します。

1950年に放火により焼失しましたが、1955年に再建されました。庭園は当時の姿を保っており、池泉回遊式庭園として四季折々の美しさを楽しめます。特に雪化粧をした金閣寺は絶景として知られています。金閣寺は日本の美意識と禅の精神が融合した象徴であり、京都を訪れる際には見逃せない重要な文化財であり、世界文化遺産です。


Step into Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji — an architectural miracle with 800 years of history.

Kinkaku-ji (Rokuon-ji), located in the Kita Ward of Kyoto, is one of Japan’s most iconic Buddhist temples and belongs to the Rinzai sect’s Shōkoku-ji school. Originally built as a villa for Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, it was called "Kitayama-dono." After his death, in accordance with his will, it was converted into a Zen temple and renamed "Rokuon-ji." However, due to its gold-covered main hall, it is more commonly known as "Kinkaku-ji" or the Golden Pavilion.

Constructed in the late 14th century, the temple's architecture blends elements of aristocratic residences, samurai homes, and Zen temples. The three-story building features distinct styles: the first floor, Hōsui-in, reflects the Heian aristocratic style; the second floor, Chōon-dō, follows samurai architecture; and the third floor, Kukkyō-chō, is designed in the style of a Zen Buddha hall. The entire pavilion is gilded in gold leaf, creating a dazzling reflection on the Mirror Pond, offering a breathtaking view.

Although the temple was destroyed by arson in 1950, the current structure was rebuilt in 1955. The surrounding garden retains its original form and is a traditional strolling garden with seasonal beauty, particularly famous for its snow-covered winter scenery. Kinkaku-ji represents the ultimate fusion of Japanese aesthetics and Zen philosophy, making it a must-visit cultural treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kyoto.
