This is a video on the critical work 'An Apology for poetry' written by Sir Philip Sidney which is a rejoinder to Stephen Gosson's pamphlet 'The School of Abuse'. Stephen Gosson attacked poetry in his pamphlet and Sidney countered this attack through this piece of critical work. This video gives an outline on how Sidney made objections to the charges against poetry. He begins the essay making a reference to Pugliano, the horse trainer and then goes on to bring forward the positive aspects of poetry to prove that it is superior to other branches of learning. Sidney then defines poetry and then compares poetry with history and philosophy. The video ends with the refutation made by Sidney on Gosson's accusations.
