On November 22, 2024, the Pullman Police Department received numerous calls about a possible wrong way driver that nearly struck other motorists. Officer Carpenter located the vehicle, which was stopped partially on the curb/grassy area of a shopping area. The 45-year-old woman was out of her vehicle when Officer Carpenter approached her. She indicated that nothing was wrong and no police assistance was needed. She then attempted to get back into her vehicle. Officer Carpenter grabbed the woman by her hair in an attempt to prevent her from leaving. Sgt. Gordon arrived and the woman was forcibly extricated from the vehicle and placed in handcuffs. She was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and was transported to the Pullman Police holding area. While Officer Carpenter was completing paperwork, the woman fell out of the infamous Pullman brown chair. The Pullman Fire Department was called to the scene and the woman was transported to the hospital. The police report indicates that the woman spit on and assaulted both officers and medical staff at the hospital. As a result, a spit hood was placed on the woman's head and it remained on her for the rest of the video. She was eventually transported to the Whitman County Jail, where a body scan revealed some possible contraband hidden inside the woman. She was charged with DUI and resisting arrest. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
