रियाज़ का अर्थ

किसी भी विषय को सीखने के दो महत्वपूर्ण पहलू होते हैं। एक है विषय के प्रति ‘स्वाभाविक अभिरुचि’ और शौक़, तथा दूसरा है उस विषय विशेष के लिए कौशल और बुद्धि को तेज करने के लिए किया गया ‘अभ्यास’ । जब विषय कला का हो, तो रियाज से कुशलता, रचनात्मकता और सहजता प्राप्त होती है।
'रियाज़' उर्दू मूल का शब्द है जिसका शाब्दिक अर्थ है ‘अभ्यास'।

भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत के शिक्षण में, रियाज़ को कौशल प्राप्त करने का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पहलू माना जाता है। इस कला विधा में मानव आवाज (या वादकों के लिए वाद्ययंत्र) की सूक्ष्म ध्वनियों समझने की आवश्यकता होती है, जो इस कला को उच्च स्तर एवं गहनता तक पहुंचाने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। किसी भी कलाकार के लिए राग को समझना और राग की रचना करने में सक्षम होना अपने आप में एक बहुत ही रचनात्मक और कठिन प्रक्रिया है जिसे योग्य दिशा में सही रियाज़ से ही प्राप्त किया जा सकता है। इसलिए संगीत में पारंगत होने के लिए रियाज़ का अपना ही विशेष महत्व है।

What is Riyaz?

There are two important facets in learning any subject. One is natural aptitude and liking towards the subject; the other is the work done on it to sharpen the skill and intellect for the particular subject. We have a natural aptitude, and skilfulness, creativity and effortlessness are achieved by Riyaz.
The word ‘Riyaz' is of Urdu origin which literally means practice.

In Indian Classical Music, Riyaz is believed to be the most important aspect of learning for being proficient. In this art form, subtler sounds of Human voice (or instruments for instrumentalists) play a key role in achieving the depth and the highest level of aesthetics. For any artist, to understand Raag and to be able to create the Raag is altogether a very creative and difficult aspect which can be achieved only with proper Riyaz. Therefore, for being proficient in music, Riyaz has its own importance.
