Ob-otoshi .
Under the International Judo Federation's (IJF) 2025 rules, grabbing the belt is permitted. The IJF has authorized also all jacket grips, including those below the belt up to the level of the top of the inner thigh.
Yama-arashi
is a Te Waza (hand technique) in judo, known for its unique grip and powerful execution. It combines elements of Seoi-nage and Harai-goshi, using one hand to control the opponent’s lapel and the other to sweep or block the leg while driving them over.
-Strong grip control – The one-handed lapel grip gives great upper-body dominance.
-Dynamic & unpredictable – Combines a forward throw with a sweeping leg motion, making it hard to counter.
-Great against aggressive opponents – Works well against opponents who push forward.
This throw, requires skill, balance, and timing, making it ideal for experienced judokas!
Obi-tori-gaeshi
is a Te Waza (hand technique) where tori grabs the opponent’s belt from below, pulls them forward, and then flips them over by using their own momentum. It’s a rare and unconventional throw that relies on timing, grip strength, and leverage.
While effective in traditional judo and self-defense, it is rarely used in modern competition due to rule changes!
