PhotoVoice: Voices Without Sight (1080p HD)

This documentary project is about the ten days that were spent with blind and low-vision citizens using the Vision Resource Center of Fayetteville, N.C. The participants were given basic instructions of camera use in order to learn different ways to express their feelings and advocate for their needs.

The participatory research project called "PhotoVoice" was conducted by:

In this PhotoVoice project, the blind and low vision participants were taught about the ethics of conducting research and how to use low light digital compact point-and-shoot cameras (i.e. basic skills such as framing a picture, lighting a picture, etc. using sensory photography methods). The pictures that they took became the "data" for the participatory action research project. The blind and low vision participants taught the researcher, through their pictures, about the technological obstacles and aids in their day to day lives in North Carolina.
