After losing Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez a few years after losing Randy Johnson, the Seattle Mariners signed Ichiro Suzuki from Japan and had a 2001 season better than anyone could expect. Ichiro going on to win MVP as a rookie while the Mariners had 8 all stars including Brett Boone, Edgar Martinez, Jamie Moyer, and Mike Cameron. As they would go on to set the AL record with 116 wins which tied the 1906 Cubs all time, but after beating the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS, they would lose to the Yankees in the ALCS.
