At 04:30 a.m. on September 24, 2025, Ukraine launched one of its most daring strikes against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Six AQ-400 Scythe drones and three MAGURA V5 sea drones moved in under the cover of fog, guided by a Bayraktar TB2 high above. Their target: the Admiral Makarov, armed with eight Kalibr missile tubes and docked at Novorossiysk, the fleet’s new headquarters.
What followed was a dramatic clash of decoys, electronic warfare, and counterattacks. Russian Pantsir systems, Orion drones, and CIWS guns tried to stop the wave. Drones were lost, radars were jammed, and missiles were wasted. But the strike pushed through. At 04:44 a.m., the final drone slammed into the pier-side fuel depot, crippling the Makarov’s Kalibr systems and leaving a half-billion-dollar frigate useless at the dock.
This video breaks down the operation step by step, showing how $1.5M worth of drones crippled a $500M warship, and why this strike has become a turning point in the Black Sea war.
