Taiwan made strides as the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage; but gaps in the legislation treat gay families differently than straight families. Most notably, gay ouples cant adopt non-biological children.

A recent court ruling created the first gay family in Taiwan to adopt non-biological children when Wei-wei and Miao-miao legally became the fathers of their daughter Joujou. The three of them becoming a family was an arduous journey. Chen-wen Wan and Cheng-yan Huang will shed light on the obstacles they faced and how they overcame them.
