Early socialisation is a crucial part of a puppy’s development and long-term welfare. At Newfangled, we prioritise giving our puppies the right start from the very beginning.
Our litters are gradually and carefully introduced to a wide range of everyday experiences. This includes household sounds, different surfaces underfoot, meeting new people, and calmly experiencing routine handling and grooming. We also begin coat care early, including bathing, drying, brushing, and gentle restraint, so puppies learn to tolerate and accept this as a normal part of life.
Some take to it like little show-offs. Others? There is a bit of dramatic sighing, some strategic avoidance, and the occasional dose of side eye.
The goal is not to create perfection, but to help every puppy grow into a well-adjusted individual, equipped to cope with the world beyond our home.
No puppy leaves here fully socialised or trained. That is simply not realistic. But what we do provide is a strong foundation. Early exposure and handling make a significant difference, and it is essential that new owners continue that work with patience, consistency, and support.
Today we are working with four Chow Chow puppies and two Newfoundland puppies during their regular grooming and handling sessions. It is cute, chaotic, and occasionally soggy, but this is where solid temperaments start.
Behind every confident adult dog is a breeder who taught them the hairdryer is not the enemy.
