Looking to make some upgrades on your CAT 3406B or CAT3406C? We walk through the common differences that make these engines a little more troublesome to upgrade than their 3406E counter part.
The after cooler found on B models and early C models can make fitting a modern turbo upgrade difficult, as the compressor housing orientation and discharge tube diameter will be different. This is not to be confused with a "PreCooler" which is a different apparatus introduced on the acert models to help cool charged air before entering the air to air cooler.
The square port cylinder heads found on many B and C models also poses as a problem as it will not allow you to fit an upgraded exhaust manifold.
