Craggy Pinnacle Trail- Blue Ridge Parkway
The Craggy Pinnacle Trailhead is located at Milepost 364 along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Starting from the Craggy Dome Parking Area the trail goes up a set of stone steps and the turns to the right. A sign here lists the summit as 0.5 miles from the trailhead making it a round-trip of 1 mile.
We took the huskies with us on this hike as dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash at all times. Be warned though we did run into a few off leash dogs and visitors not following park rules.
The trail itself was absolutely amazing. Twisted trees, rocks, wildflowers, and berry thickets line the trail the entire way to the summit. During warmer months blueberries and blackberries are able to be picked and eaten as a quick snack while passing by. A small concrete natural spring is on the trail midway and a great place to grab some water ( filtered of course).
At almost 5,900 feet in elevation the summit offers amazing 360 degree views of Mt Mitchell, the boarded of Tennessee, North Fork Lake, an excellent view of Craggy Dome, and the Craggy Gardens Visitors center down below. During early morning and rainy days the views may be limited due to fog and cloud cover but have patience.
After taking in the views head back the way you came to reach the parking area.
