ART HISTORY | A Yayoi Kusama-Inspired Art Project for Children
“With just one polka dot, nothing can be achieved. In the universe, there is the sun, the moon, the earth, and hundreds of millions of stars. All of us live in the unfathomable mystery and infinitude of the universe. Pursuing 'philosophy of the universe' through art under such circumstances has led me to what I call 'stereotypical repetition.'” - Yayoi Kusama
The idea of infinity through repetitive dot patterns is fundamental for Yayoi Kusama’s creations. The mesmerising repetition of patterns in her work has made her one of the most famous pattern artists in art history.
Activity: Observe the dot patterns created by Yayoi Kusama, and re-create the dot patterns using colouring markers/Sharpie on strips of paper, and create a 3D paper pumpkin!
