How to make your own flea and tick powder for dogs is the perfect answer to protect your best friend, not just from fleas and ticks, but just as importantly, from toxic chemical flea and tick products (please don't put commercial flea and tick products on your dog!)

So with this in mind, here's a safe natural flea and tick powder for dogs with just three ingredients:

Diatomaceous earth is a non toxic powder made from ground fossils, marine life and fresh water organisms and is safe for pets and people but once in contact with fleas and ticks they cannot live for long.

Please note that the diatomaceous earth you want is food grade and the same as a similar product used in swimming pool filters so avoid pool grade diatomaceous earth and I'll leave a link in the below to the correct choice.

Neem is another excellent natural flea and tick powder for dogs. Any contact with neem and fleas, mites, lice or ticks on your dog will be certain to die. I've tested neem for over 15 years on fleas, tics and mites on dogs and with head lice in school children's hair and found it to be 100% effective in every case.

Calendula is a genus of about 15-20 species of annual and perennial plants known as commonly as marigolds. It has antiseptic, ant-inflammatory, antiviral properties, conditions the skin, stimulates collagen production and reduces dry skin.

Calendula promotes fast healing of any flea or tick bite irritation including general bug bites and will heal dry cracked skin. It's also good for fighting yeast based skin allergies and promotes relaxation if your dog is a little nervous.

Instructions for how to make your own flea and tick powder for dogs.
Mix all three powders together in roughly equal amounts and add enough to fill a shaker jar.

Then rub the mixture into your dogs coat being careful not to create too much dust as it can irritate your dogs nose. Try to rub your dogs hair back to expose the skin and apply a little powder as you work your way closely over your dogs body from the hindquarters to the neck.

Remember to apply the mixture to the spots that fleas and ticks love such as under the armpits, around the neck and lower mussel. You'll use around a teaspoon full in one application to a medium sized dog and re-apply monthly.

If you have fleas in the house, be sure to wash all bedding and apply some of the mixture to the bedding once dry.

You can also apply the flea and tick powder for dogs to flea and tick infested areas of the yard, just shake lightly over the areas affected.
