Ingredients
For the Savoury Mince
• 1 small onion, diced (about 100 g / 3.5 oz / ½ UK cup / ½ US cup)
• 1–2 cloves garlic, minced (about 6 g / 1 tsp)
• 450 g minced beef (1 lb) — ideally 15–20% fat
• 10 g tomato paste (½ heaped tsp / 1 cm from tube / 2 tsp / 10 ml)
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (5 ml)
• 1 beef stock cube (or 1 tsp / 5 g bouillon powder)
• 300 g frozen mixed vegetables (1 cup / ¾ UK cup)
• 15–30 g gravy granules (1–2 tbsp / ¼–⅓ US cup) — adjust for thickness
• 400–500 ml water (1¾–2 US cups / 1½–1⅔ UK cups)
• ½ tsp salt (3 g) or to taste
• ¼ tsp black pepper (1 g)
• Optional: ½ tsp onion powder or a pinch of dried thyme for extra depth
For the Mash
• 800 g potatoes, peeled and chopped (1¾ lb)
• 30 g butter (2 tbsp / 1 oz)
• 60 ml milk (4 tbsp / ¼ UK cup / ¼ US cup)
• Salt and pepper to taste
