Direct painting in watercolor refers to a method where the artist starts immediately on the white paper without building up successive washes and drying in between layers of paint. The object is to capture the center of interest first, working outward from there and completing the painting in one go. Advantages to this method are less danger of getting into mud and a more spontaneous and fresh looking result. It is a perfect process for on site painting.
