Last time in this series, we covered KISS' infamous disco crossover period wherein the band created two albums with Vini Poncia which aimed for greater mainstream appeal than before, engaged in massive tours with ridiculous, color-coded outfits, and began to crumble as a unit with the departure of Peter Criss. Now, with new, hard-hitting drummer Eric Carr behind the skins and jazzed up by the excess-fueled Australian leg of the Unmasked Tour, the band aimed to follow these commercial successes up with a basic hard rock album meant to ensure their dwindling American fanbase that they could still rock and roll all night. Instead, they created a high fantasy concept record which tanked the remainder of their reputation so badly, they had to reset their whole image to survive. Join me for the next three hours as I untangle the web of events which resulted in the messiness of KISS' Music from the Elder, highlight its pros and cons, examine the effect it had on the band's future trajectory, and... talk about my obsession with Vtubers??
