San Lorenzo Valley Historical Society board member and Curator of the Capitola Historical Museum Deborah Osterberg presents: "Modern Military Personnel Records," where she discusses the types of available modern military records (World War I to the present) and how to access them.
This program was presented for the San Lorenzo Valley Museum via Zoom on Veteran's Day 2021. While with the National Archives at San Francisco from 2005 to 2014, Deborah presented this special workshop each Veterans Day.
Special emphasis will be on understanding the Military Personnel Records Center (MPRC) located in St. Louis, and how to use the eVets online request system. Deborah will discuss the limitation on records due to the devastating 1973 records facility fire which destroyed approximately 80% of World War II Army and Air Force personnel records. She will outline how to best prepare an eVets system request and the available ways for recovering records through alternative sources at the MPRC and through additional National Archives and Veterans Administration collections and online genealogical sources.
