How To: Sew Straps For Swimwear

Another thing that can seem daunting when it comes to sewing swimwear is creating straps. Here I will show you two different ways of creating straps. This can be used in place of strap elastic if you are sewing a bra pattern as a bikini or for creating a ties for bikinis such as my Lilou bikini top pattern (out soon!) or for creating halter style straps like on my upcoming Mimi bikini pattern.
I would defo recommend the second method, it's my fav! It's also the method that I include in my bikini sewing patterns. So much neater, quicker and easier but I thought I would demonstrate a couple of ways anyway. Don't forget to use a polyester thread!
I hope you find this tutorial helpful! I have used 12 mm wide rubber swimwear elastic and using the second method it fits through 12 mm rings and sliders perfectly still.
