Anotace:
The title of Cohen, Colebrook, and Miller’s ecocritical study—Twilight of the Anthropocene Idols (2016)—argues that it is the inscription of human ideology concerned with its own destruction which ultimately defines what it means to be human in a physical universe. This paper employs the conceit of “twilight” and juxtaposes it against the notion of “judgement” or “doom” present in the Old Norse word for apocalypse (ragnarǫk) to further explore how medieval Icelanders inscribed their own human/non-human relationships.
