He Said He Could Make My Cheap Guitar Priceless... He Was Right.

I teamed up with Chris & Matt from Driftwood Guitars to do the dumbest possible thing to a $300, beat-up 1980 “lawsuit era” Takamine: spare-no-expense the rebuild. Six months, 50+ hours, and ~$4,500 later… it’s a completely different guitar. You shouldn't do this but… I'm glad we did.

WHAT WE DID
• Neck off (epoxy), converted to serviceable bolt-on + full reset
• Top thinned + braces re-voiced (through the soundhole!)
• Brazilian rosewood bridge, unslotted pins, wide bone saddle
• Bone nut, stainless frets, fingerboard leveled
• Subtle burst refinish on back/sides/neck
• Result: more sustain, wider bandwidth, faster response, and—under a mic—shockingly balanced (“premixed”)
