This video features a little bit of everything South Jersey has to offer, from short lines to Conrail Shared Assets to NJ Transit.
We started the day in Logan Township, NJ, where we were able to see Conrail CA-11 and an SMS switching job. The SMS job utilized an ex-Santa Fe B23-7, which is still in its original Santa Fe bluebonnet scheme. After filming the SMS job, we headed over to Conrail's Beesleys Point Secondary to see CA-51 heading south to Winslow Junction. I was hoping to see a Norfolk Southern high hood GP38-2 since I have never seen one in operation. However, those hopes were dashed as CA-51 was powered by NS GP38-2 5279 and CSX GP40-2 4450. After catching CA-51 at two locations, a brief McDonald's lunch break was in order, as we had a short gap in between Conrail locals.
After lunch we proceeded to Mount Laurel, where we saw CA-20 heading back to Camden with a pair of Norfolk Southern GP38-2s. After catching CA-20, we went to Hammonton to grab a couple of NJ Transit trains on the Atlantic City Line. One of those ACL trains utilized one of two speed stripe painted GP40PH-2Bs on the NJ Transit roster. We then headed to Winslow Junction to see if anything was happening on the Southern Railroad of New Jersey. While SRNJ was quiet, we surprisingly caught up with CA-51 again, this time with 4450 in the lead. Before leaving Winslow, I filmed an NJ Transit train passing the old Winslow Tower. We then headed off to Millville, where we saw Conrail MI-61 getting ready to depart the yard with a pair of Norfolk Southern units. We then drove over to the nearest crossing to film them leaving the yard. Our last stop in South Jersey was in Bridgeton, where we saw a Winchester and Western job departing their yard. A brief chase of WW90 ensued before we headed off for dinner. After dinner, we went to Browns Yard in Sayreville to catch Conrail PR-52, the Port Reading to Browns Yard transfer. Powering that train were two units: NS SD40-2 3376 and NS SD45-2 1700, with 1700 representing its heritage by being in Erie Lackawanna paint.
