The Warsaw Concerto was written by Richard Addinsell, for the 1941 British film Dangerous Moonlight. It was written to imitate the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff. It started a trend for similar short piano concertos in the Romantic style, which have been dubbed "tabloid concertos", or "Denham concertos". Other examples of this include Hubert Bath's “Cornish Rhapsody”, and Charles Williams' The Dream of Olwen. The actual Rachmaninoff slow movement from the Second Piano Concerto was used quite effectively in the 1945 film “Brief Encounter”. It cannot be understated how much the Warsaw Concerto became the most influential instrumental work written in Britain during the war. Along with this shmaltzy 40s film music are the top best looking actors of Old Hollywood. Please note, this is just my humble opinion. Enjoy the video.
