Over the decades, QIMR Berghofer researchers have been among the world's leaders in uncovering the role of genetics in complex human diseases, from the early Twin Studies of the 1980s, to the remarkable leaps in DNA analysis technologies and the rapid growth in genome wide association studies (GWAS) since the turn of the century.
QIMR Berghofer scientists have been at the forefront of gene discovery and helping to advance our knowledge about the biological factors that contribute to conditions that affect the health of so many people including asthma, melanoma, ADHD, OCD, depression, and anxiety, to name just a few.
This has changed the whole conversation around mental health conditions by raising awareness, reducing stigma, and helping to improve the lives of millions around the world.
