The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows:
In South Africa today, a high-pressure system combined with a significant upper-level trough is anticipated to bring chilly and wet conditions to various regions, particularly KwaZulu-Natal Province, Eastern Cape Province, and the Free State Province. Moisture from the north will flow into these areas, leading to the development of severe thunderstorms in parts of the Northern Cape Province and North West Province. As the day progresses into early tomorrow morning, a possibility of mixed precipitation, including rain and snow, is expected in the mountainous regions of Lesotho, our neighbouring country. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued impact-based warnings. A Yellow Level 4 warning indicates that disruptive rainfall is likely to cause flooding of roads and settlements across most of KwaZulu-Natal Province, excluding the northeastern areas, as well as significant traffic disruptions due to road closures. Additionally, a Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for the southern parts of Mpumalanga Province, where heavy downpours may lead to localized flooding of vulnerable areas, roads, and bridges, potentially causing temporary disruptions to municipal services and damage to properties. Lastly, the northeastern region of the Northern Cape Province is also under a Yellow Level 2 warning due to expected severe thunderstorms, which could result in localized flooding in low-lying areas, roads, and bridges, and damage to structures in open regions.
