Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia accused Western powers on Tuesday of hollowing out international law, saying the United Nations Charter was being selectively applied to justify sanctions, military expansion and interference in sovereign states. Speaking at a UN Security Council open debate on the rule of law, Nebenzia said NATO’s expansion, economic sanctions and the seizure of sovereign assets amounted to a shift from law to force, warning that such practices risk pushing the world into a dystopian future. He urged the UN to regain independence and uphold sovereignty, cooperation and equality among states, cautioning that continued erosion of international law would have global consequences.
