Today, we discuss US inflation 2022 problem explained, what is inflation and how does it work. In our Finance 101 series, we are covering the fundamentals of anything you need to know in personal finance & investing. Today’s video answers the question “What is Inflation”. We will explore the problem of inflation in the United States and what it means for the economy and consumers.
Inflation is a persistent problem for the US economy that has been around for decades. The Federal Reserve Bank defines inflation as "a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money." Inflation can be caused by a number of factors, but is usually triggered by an increase in demand for goods or services, which causes a rise in their prices. The U.S. is the world's largest economy and it still has the largest military in the world. But in terms of global economic power, it ranks third after China and Japan, according to a new report by Forbes.
Inflation is a term that refers to a rise in prices of goods and services over time. This can happen for many reasons: when demand for goods or services increases relative to supply, when there is an increase in the price of commodities (e.g., oil), or when central banks increase interest rates too much too quickly. This inflation problem has been happening because China’s economy has slowed down and there are increasing trade tensions between China and the US, as well as higher oil prices due to geopolitical instability in Iran and Venezuela.

The recent news of decreasing real GDP in the first quarter does not indicate that a recession is imminent. That was due to statistical details rather than anything essential. Despite the enormous inflationary pressures that this economy is facing, a serious recession is still looming a few months away. The nation can avert this disagreeable scenario only in the highly unusual event that price pressures magically lift on their own. And, given the deep roots of inflation in the economy's fundamentals, such good fortune is unlikely.
There will be one of two causes for the recession. If the Federal Reserve (Fed) decides to apply adequate monetary constraint — restricting credit flows and raising interest rates significantly and quickly — it will certainly shock markets and trigger recessionary circumstances, although a mild one. Of course, the Fed has the option of not acting aggressively. While this may delay the onset of recessionary pressures, unrestrained inflation will eventually cause enough economic distortions to trigger a recession, one that will most likely be more severe and long-lasting than one caused by anti-inflation initiatives. Recession is looming in some form or another.
What does inflation mean for you and I? The simplest way to think about this is, a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. What that means is that a dollar has less purchasing power in the future than it has in the present. This decline in purchasing power of a dollar or any currency over time is what economists call inflation.
