1930 Auburn Model 8-95 Phaeton Sedan
In the early 1900s the Eckhart Carriage Company grew into an automobile company under the direction of Charles Eckhart. In 1915, after his death, sons Frank & Morris Eckhart assumed control. In 1919, the company was sold to a group of investors in Chicago. In 1924, E. L. Cord saved the Auburn Automobile Company (AAC) when he became general manager and he also purchased Duesenberg and began his own holding company, Cord Corporation. Then in 1929, when Wall Street crashed and the Great Depression started, thousands of people found themselves without jobs. This left the AAC with very few people to market their luxury vehicles. By 1930 Auburn was struggling to sell vehicles and only 535(4) door phaeton sedans were produced.
Surprisingly, in 1931, the ACC sold 34,000 cars in 93 countries. Then in 1935, the AAC had to produce a line of kitchen cabinets & sinks to keep afloat. AAC declared bankruptcy in 1937 and automobile production stopped.
