Evan was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
He taught himself guitar by learning to play "Come As You Are" by Nirvana.
He used to play for Avril lavigne. He remained in Lavigne's band until September 2004; when he left to focus on his own music.
In June 2006, Evan founded Big Evil Corp. The company primarily operates as an extension of his publishing and production businesses.
On February 13, 2009, he revealed the album cover for Welcome to the Blacklist Club in the fanclub area of his site
On Sunday, July 26,2009 he joined Metro Station, Mayday Parade, and Mitchel Musso on his second tour as a solo artist.
