Strict enforcement of UAS/drone regulations will significantly impact the drone industry in Malaysia. The stringent requirements and associated costs deter hobbyists and small businesses from entering the drone space and leveraging drones to modernize their operations. This could potentially stifle innovation and growth.
While these regulations are designed to ensure the safety and proper usage of drones, crucial for preventing accidents and misuse, it's essential to strike a balance. Other countries have found solutions to accommodate drone enthusiasts and small businesses. For instance, drones weighing less than 250 grams in the US don't require users to pass the FAA's Part 107 examination, allowing hobbyists to fly their drones as long as they comply with the existing UAS/drone laws.
I urge CAAM and the Ministry of Transport Malaysia to consider these alternative approaches. There's no need to reinvent the wheel; let's adopt successful models from other countries to support our drone industry while ensuring safety. Your support for more balanced regulations can impact Malaysia's drone/UAS industry competitiveness.
