PERFECT SURF IN NIAS

We're back in Nias! One of our favorite waves and trips of the year and we're with the whole crew again (minus Bronson who had the Ballito Pro to attend to). Starting out with the legendary travel leg of the Nias journey, the crew's plane gets struck by lightning en route from Bali! Scary, but maybe a good omen of things to come. Arriving in Medan and preparing for the drive to Lagundri Bay, the crew is notified that all of their boards are not making it until the next day. Leaving them with no choice but to cruise and enjoy the first night. Still waiting for boards to arrive the next morning, Varun updates us on his back injury and then we catch up with him and Made Joi while they watch the waves, remembering surf stories and Made's legendary 10 point ride from last years contest (watch that here:    • PUMPING NIAS // PART II  ). Wasting no time once the boards arrive, everyone paddles out for the first free surf of the trip and scores some mean turns and proper barrels. Catching up with Taina Izquierdo and Marama Tokong on the beach, we share a few laughs and good vibes. The next day, competition is on and the waves are cooking. Varun makes it through a critical heat with a genius strategy, while Westen, Teddy and Dylan Wilcoxen made their heats as well. Following an epic day of competition, back at the homestay, we all celebrate Sinar's 15th birthday, Nias style! The next day, it's Finals day at the contest, and Westen has "the craziest heat of my life" he says, getting a last minute score to beat his friend Teddy to advance through. In a tight Final heat with Westen and a couple others, Dylan Wilcoxen (Indonesian from Kandui) takes the victory for the Nias Pro Jr. and the Nias Pro, taking over the Nias Pro 2025 with back to back Finals wins. Another legendary time in Nias.
