I love the slower tempo he takes.
Also love how clear the voicing is (a lot of other interpretations seem to more muddy, esp in the middle section).
In particular, the left hand "response" to the right hand melody at 2:57 and 3:30 add much depth to the piece. The phrase 4:52 - 5:08 forms a clear contrast with 2:06, which i thought was very effective.
There are lot more subtle things Sokolov does uniquely(voicing left-hand, rit and subito piano into the top note, delayed left hand and rolling chords for effect etc.)
