NANCY - I Hate Rock & Roll

Brighton-based Psych-infused Rock'N'Roll artist NANCY with his latest single 'I Hate Rock & Roll'.

Bizarro-pop provocateur NANCY announces the forthcoming arrival of his debut LP, alongside the rollicking lead single ‘I Hate Rock & Roll’, set for release June 30th via Blame Recordings.

Raised in conservative northeast England, NANCY acted in ways that seemed out-of-the-ordinary - combined with abnormal physical features, “Nancy” was both a punchline & label throughout the songwriter’s formative years.

Beginning as a DIY form of escapism, a pop music obsession began. It’s these past lives and vivid influences that are reimagined and regurgitated to create a cocktail of lo-fo cabaret sass contorted with art-dream-pop deformities - an invitation to a fantasy world to get lost in.

Following on from 2021’s acclaimed mini-LP ‘7 Foot Tall Post-Suicidal Feel Good Blues’, NANCY’s unique brand of warped psychedelia has captured the imagination of countless key indie press champions (Pitchfork, Stereogum, NME, DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, So Young, Gigwise, Paste), as well as attracting multiple spins on the BBC Radio 1 (Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders), BBC 6 Music (Iggy Pop, Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq), Beats 1, KCRW & KEXP airwaves.

“Rock and Roll. My first true love”, NANCY explains. “It's glamorous, decadent and ridiculous. Since I was 14 noodling in my bedroom, Rock and Roll has been everything I've ever wanted. I've been in love with Rock and Roll; I've dedicated my life to it. But now Rock and Roll has become a ball and chain. It's a cage of ambition I've built around myself; it's a golden carrot that I stagger towards, an oasis of aspiration in a desert of economic despair. So naturally, I wrote a song about it…I Hate Rock n Roll.”

With the musical auteur set to reveal a full live plot for the autumn to coincide with the release of his debut record, NANCY’s formidable momentum is only set to accelerate further in the months to come.
