2GIL29 GALLERY presents MY Q’s solo exhibition "Soft Slam" from May 13th to June 10th. MY Q(b. 1981), who has gained attention with his bold color and composition in his paintings, will showcase over 50 large-scale new works in this exhibition, which he has developed over a long period of contemplation including a series of works that explore condensation and expansion. MY Q has built up a complex interplay between the inner and outer worlds of human beings on his canvas based on his experiences as a musician, artist and himself with diverse cultural surroundings with his own unique sensitivity. Rather than communication with others, he empties out his personal desires and converts his inner voice and emotions, such as repeated love and loss that he has encountered in life into symbolic images and metaphorical yet bold brushstrokes. "Soft Slam", as it is the title of this exhibition, represents the story of an artist who sits on a slanted boundary and faces repeated failures on a daily basis. His intuitive senses are harmoniously revealed on the canvas, presenting works that do not impose a unilateral conclusion, but rather provide minimal clues for the viewers to interpret and reinterpret in their own ways. MY Q repeatedly questions what dominates his life, but every day he empties himself back into the blank state and shows us his daily routine, which is sometimes relentless and sometimes calm. He captures the stories of us living in this era on the canvas with his own intuition and experiences.
