I’m Melissa Holyoak, an FTC Commissioner. Scammers are calling people, pretending to be a US Marshal or the police. They say you’ve missed jury duty and, unless you pay right away, they’re coming to arrest you. I’m in law enforcement and I’m here to tell you: that’s not how law enforcement works. The courts will never call and demand payment. And they’ll never say you can only pay by gift card, crypto, payment apps, or wire transfers. But scammers will, so don’t pay – and don’t share your information with them, either. Keep up with the latest scams at ftc.gov/ConsumerAlerts.
