NAMA Cultural Festival All activities Highlights 26to28May2022 1080

Keetmanshoop, a town located in the southern part of Namibia is where the annual Nama cultural festival took place from the 26th to 29th of May 2022, with a them unity is our strength.

The preparation of the Westdene stadium and the display stalls for the highly anticipated celebration of the Nama culture is set.

The day also coincided with the celebration of Africa week from 23rd to 29th May, and Africa day commemoration on 25th May.

Having witness the previous years’ Nama culture festivities, the organizers of this colourful event, ensured that they attracted a larger number of people from all over Namibia especially Nama traditional authorities, clans and from the diaspora to witness yet another prestigious festivity.

Representatives from Nama clans based in South Africa and Botswana also made their presentence felt through knowledge exchange with their Namibian counterpart, so that in turn they promote similar festivals in their respective countries.

Celebrating in unison was reflected during all activities slated for the four-day annual occasion, to ensure that all visitors experience the unique cultural heritage of the Nama people fused with more than a century of western colonial influence.

The chronicle of activities also attracted participants and visitors to familiarize themselves with the cultural values and norms of Nama people, through a display of colourful traditional dresses, delicacies, dances such as the popular Nama staap and langarm.

Many other accomplishments such the official opening and various panel discussions centered towards preserving the Nama culture for current and future generations.

They also focused on discussing ways on how to improve the socioeconomic condition of Namibians especially the youth and in particular, communities who continues to endured the impact of the Herero and Nama genocide waged by the German Empire between 1904 to 1908

To re-energize this year’s annual festival, for the first time, the four-day celebrations also mirrored on the Nama traditional wedding ceremony.

A Nama traditional wedding ceremony from the beginning to the end as well as the Christian proceedings, all under one umbrella of love, joyous union and dances until dawn.

Other activities highlights entailed a gospel show and a music bash, which lit the stage to show case notable Namibian musical talent to the globe, all in the name of celebrating, NamaKhoeda Ge.
